About Stonewear Patterns
Stonewear Patterns was created in 2022 by Leanne Stone as a brand of her sustainable haberdashery business, The Haberdasher Bee.
Leanne was taught to sew by her mother and grandmother, plus some additional classes at school. However, when looking at developing her skills and learning to create garments, she didn’t really feel that the school and college courses she looked at would allow her to create what she wanted to work on, as they were either restrictive in the briefs of what you were expected to make or simply not at all related to the skills she was interested in.
For many years she didn’t sew as a result, only returning to the craft in 2018 after deciding she needed a new handbag and not liking commercial offerings. While the bag was never completed, she was once again bitten by the sewing bug – making her wedding dress as her first garment (with the help and supervision of both her mother-in-law and her mother), soon followed by another dress and a pair of jeans.
During the first national lockdown in 2020, Leanne taught herself to crochet and instantly loved it, as she found it to be very relaxing and meditative. During this time she also became interested in learning to design her own sewing patterns, eventually enrolling on a course with The Manchester College.
Her first collection of sewing patterns are the culmination of her work at The Manchester College. With the help of books on the subject, she has also taught herself to design crochet patterns.
Stonewear Patterns is, therefore, the clothing that Leanne Stone herself likes to wear; practical, comfortable, timeless, and often containing interesting details which help to develop your skills as a sewist or crocheter further. We hope you love these designs as much as we do!
